There are many people in the world celebrating that America basically did nothing to encourage the freedom fighters in the recent uprising in Iran following what appears to be a very questionable election in that country. The same people are cheering on the Obama administration when it speaks out in favor or the leftist government that was overthrown by the military in Honduras, because it was trying to establish a Venezuelan-type dictatorship.
The same people are applauding the continuing collapse of the US economy as the Obama Administration piles on the debt in an historic and unprecedented manner that no credible economist could have ever imagined a year ago.
If any of these people now clapping their hands are Christians, then they better be asking themselves, where will this end? What are the consequences of these actions - because, even the most liberal of economists are now admitting that America has already spent: way beyond its means to repay, in the foreseeable future. Even though the President himself as admitted as much, this has not curbed his appetite for adding to the debt. Legislation already in the works, including a proposal for universal health care in America, suggest, extremely worrying times ahead for the US economy.
The truth is, that, America and the World, which is already spiritually and economically sick, may in fact now have a terminal disease that will wreak global havoc beyond our wildest dreams.
Hanging over all of this like an ominous dark cloud, ready to dump on the world, is the fact that most of America’s debt is held by Communist China who would like to see the world move away from the American Dollar standard and into Special Drawing Rights (SDR). China will have every “banana republic” in the world behind them in any effort to undermine the US dollar and move to SDR, which would totally undermine any credibility that world currencies may now have. If America allows itself to fall into this trap, it will be a very, very sad day for the world.
Where does this leave the Church? More very hard times are ahead. Churches can expect to see even further cutbacks in charitable giving and it will be increasingly difficult to fund global missions programs. Tens of millions of poor people’s lives have already been destroyed in the past 9 months because of the Global Financial Disaster; and many more will be hurt in the months and years to come as this massive transference of wealth from the people to government and big business occurs. The undermining of the American Free Enterprise system is a disaster for the world that the world will not easily overcome.
