Our Great Commission

Friday 12 Sep 2008

The job of a missionary is to take the message of Jesus Christ to the world.  This is what is generally called fulfilling our “Great Commission” (See Matthew 24: 14).

Because of the nature of Christ’s message, by necessity, missionary work involves us in the “War of Ideas” that is part and parcel of human life, and which is now raging at almost fever pitch throughout the world.  The most basic fact of life, every man, woman, and child in this world is involved in this war, in their own way, fighting a spiritual battle in their minds, striving to find and understand life and ultimately what to believe.

The War of Ideas is the struggle between good and evil for the hearts and the minds of humanity, from which none of us can escape.  It should be understandable therefore that this is where the tension between Christianity and its “competitors” starts and ends, because this is not only Christianity’s Great Commission, to stand for the truth, it is also the primary objective of every government and alternative religions/beliefs in the world, to promote and defend what they believe is true.

As Christians we need to understand this, that most governments and every alternative belief are competing with us; even if some more than others.  It is their God-given right and purpose to do so, because without such competition, the truth can never be revealed – in other words, God can never be known.  If the return of Christ is to happen, this war must be fought and won.

As God’s servants or warriors in this struggle, we need to be, as Jesus said, “as gentle as doves, but also as wise as serpents,” because, as He also said, “the children of this world are wiser than the children of the light.”

We need to recognize and understand the weapons that our enemies use against us: for example, the separation of church and state doctrine and the supposedly superior status of science.

Most Christians agree with the concept of the separation of church and state doctrine, simply because politics is about being popular and telling the truth is not always popular.  Regardless however, the application of this concept is generally very one-sided.  Using the power of the “bully pulpit”, governments around the world vigorously and very deceitfully use the idea of the separation of church and state to stop Christians from spreading the word of Christ, which is the very spirit of individual freedom, personal responsibility, and free enterprise.  Government action against the teaching of creation science in schools is a prime example.  Governments do this because the light that Christianity shines is too brightly for them.  Generally speaking, they do not want to answer to a higher authority than themselves.  They much prefer to do whatever they like, without such moral responsibility.  Consequently, they do not want their citizens to be answering to a higher authority.  This is what they fear most in the teaching of divine creation – it is a smokescreen that they are concerned with children learning good science.

And world of science is no different; it is similarly terrified of the Church and particularly the concept of Jesus Christ.  In the past century, the so-called “scientific community” has fought hard for and very successfully and understandably inserted itself into the global power structure.  After struggling for centuries to gain acceptance at the table, scientists today constitute a body of opinion that, in many respects, is even more powerful than any government or the Church, even Rome, has ever been.  This has come about as governments everywhere have increasingly become aware of the social, political, and commercial importance of science in this day and age.  Without question, modern science has made an incredible contribution to mankind in the time since Isaac Newton first broke through the so-called “glass ceiling” that then also relegated scientists to the status that women and colored people in many parts of the world now believe is keeping them from their rightful place at the table of power.

The sad thing however, just as the church in Rome has long been accused, science, like all governments of men, has now become self-protecting: that which it feared and abhorred, it has now become itself.  Just as the church in Rome was for more than a thousand years, science today is more about preserving the status of science than it is about finding the truth, and, like Rome, this will ultimately be its downfall.  And, in the War of Ideas, the debate over divine creation will be its downfall, and science knows this.  Most scientists know that they have a pretty good idea how the world exists, but they have absolutely no ideas “why” it is this way, and until they do, their science is sadly lacking; and all their huffing and puffing will not change this truth.
Scientists today have no idea why the world is the way it is because, ever science Socialism and Science got together in the early days of the 20th Century it has been taboo in the halls of science to even mention philosophy and science in the same breath.  Prior to that however, every good scientist studied both mathematics and philosophy; and it was considered unthinkable not to, because of the inextricable link between mathematics, logic and philosophy.  Philosophy however, is too close to religion; it leads its followers to consider such concepts as truth, logic, and unavoidably, morality.  And the first rule of politics is that you never give a sucker an even break.  If your enemy be an ant, think of him as an elephant; and this is what every politician worth his salt does, and the leading voices of science around the world have learned this lesson quickly and well.

One hundred years on however and we can see where the stupidity of this marriage of convenience has gotten us.  Sure, from science’s perspective, it has produced billions and billions of taxpayer’s dollars for scientific projects.  The truth is however that many of these, probably most, should never have been funded, but were funded for pure political expediency: to win the hearts and minds of scientists and the gullible public whose minds, with the help of science, have concurrently been intentionally poisoned against the church, for an equal political purpose.  Every socialist with even an iota of truth in him will tell you that this has been the game plan.

And so, how can we win, you ask?  With God, nothing is impossible; with God we always win.  For if God is with us, who can stand against us and win?  The incredibly brilliant mind of man has not invented a scheme, and never will; he does not have the capacity to stand against God and win; and as Christians, we just have to know and believe this.  This is all we need to do to win the invisible war.

The ultimate book of science and government was written long before the current population of amateurs conceived of these latest schemes to rule the world.  And the good news is that it never changes.  So long as we believe and keep telling our children this; and all who will listen; we can believe that Christ will ultimately return again and rule in this world.  In the long history of man, there is no record of where truth did not ultimately win in the end.
