Stop Funding Terror

As the world’s attention is glued on Mumbai, India, this Thanksgiving, we are all alarmed and angered to see that terrorism has returned with a vengeance.  Let us therefore stop feasting long enough to find time to think about what has to be done to stop this scourge; and how we can take action before it is too late.  It is time that our governments took real and meaningful action to protect us.

Clearly military action can be only partly successful.  We have learnt this from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the endless struggle between Israel and its neighbors.   So what can we do and what should be done?

The answer is simple: America and the West must stop the flow of funds to the terrorists and nations that are not friendly to the West.  So long as the enemies of the West have the resources to fight, they will fight and there is nowhere on this earth that we can hide.  The only way to stop them is to take away the resources they need to wage war against us.  The West has to stop funding the terrorists and those countries that despise us.  OK – we are not doing it directly or intentionally, but we all know by now that every time we fill up our cars with gas, we are subsidizing terrorism somewhere in the world.  This has to stop.  We must change the rules of the game, if we want peace; while there is still time and we have the ability to do so.

Billions Going Abroad

At the height of the recent surge in oil prices, it was estimated that America was transferring $750 billion a year to countries that “do not like America”, to get their oil.   Many blamed President George W. Bush, but they can no longer use President Bush as an excuse.  Barack Obama has now been elected, and so, if President George W. Bush was the culprit, then according to his detractors, the terror will now stop; but, we know it will not, and we know this.
Others say that it is the war in Iraq.  If only American troops were not in Iraq, there would be no terrorism.  Well, a timetable has now been set; so let us see if the terrorism stops; it will not.

The Hard Cold Reality

As distasteful as it may be, the reality is that the militant Islamists; and Communists everywhere, hate all that the West stands for.  They will not stop attacking and undermining until the Western World as we know it, is destroyed.  The attack on India is only an attempt to turn India away from its move towards the Western World.  India knows that it must join the West, if it is ever able to provide its people with a decent standard of living; but this is exactly what the terrorists oppose.  They have a vested interest in keeping people everywhere in slavery – they hate the idea of individual freedom.  And it is time the “do-gooders” of this world who defend their cause, realized this, before it is too late and this battle is lost.  And we do not have years for this to happen; the clock is already working against us.

Alternative Energy

President elect Obama is talking about investing heavily in alternative energy, but how will this end the outflow of capital for oil in the next decade?  It will not. 
Yes, America and the West must invest in alternative energy, and over the next 50 years, America should move progressively towards energy self-sufficiency.  Fifty years to achieve self-sufficiency from alternative energy sources is a realistic goal.  However, what happens in the meantime; can America wait 50 years for relief from the constant terrorist threat?

Innocence is a wonderful thing; and ignorance is said to be bliss; but those who gamble with America’s and the World’s freedom like this are neither innocent or ignorant, but they are either fools or enemies of freedom and the free enterprise way of life that has given us so much.  They are fools because the world knows how long it will take America to become energy self-sufficient from alternative fuels, even if they do not.  The world knows that if it were viable today, then smart investors everywhere would be investing in alternative energy, regardless of what President Bush or President-elect Obama says.

Drill for Oil Now

If America is to guarantee its freedom in the years ahead; it must do two things: (1) it must drill for every barrel of oil that it can get from American territories now; and (2) it must make a national commitment to become energy self-sufficient, as fast as it can.

By drilling for oil, America will send a signal to the oil market that it is serious about achieving energy self-sufficiency.  By making a national commitment to becoming energy self-sufficient, it will enforce this commitment.  This will keep oil prices down and stop the flow of funds to terrorists.  Then watch the terrorist activity stop.  It’s hard to do anything, when you haven’t got money.

If Americans are not prepared to do this, then, sadly, they must expect to suffer the consequences.  They must expect higher oil prices to return and terrorism to continue.  The can expect Russia and Venezuela to be emboldened and be am increasing threat to the United States and the free world.
